GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greivis Vasquez earned the 2010 Player of the Year and Gary Williams was voted the 2010 Coach of the Year as the Atlantic Coast Conference announced its top individual awards on Tuesday.
The voting was done by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
Vasquez, a senior from Caracas, Venezeula, is the fifth University of Maryland player to earn ACC Player of the Year honors and the first since Juan Dixon earned the award in 2002. Len Bias won twice (1985, 1986), Albert King won in 1980 and Joe Smith won the award in 1995.

Quinn Cook’s teammates and coaches can tell when the junior point guard will have a big game. They can recognize subtle hints in his body language and demeanor, an ability that comes from countless hours at practice and game after game.
DeMatha coach Mike Jones can see it in Cook’s eyes. It’s difficult for him to put the visualization into words, but he just knows the look. Senior guard Jerian Grant can see it in his calm adroitness—he doesn’t talk much, just plays.

PRINCETON, N.J. - Pittsburgh, Texas, Maryland, and Illinois will tip-off the 2010 college basketball season in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, which culminates with the Championship Rounds at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Nov. 18-19. Championship Round tickets will go ON SALE TOMORROW (March 9) at 12:00 noon.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior guard Greivis Vasquez of Maryland was one of three unanimous selections to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team, announced Monday by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. In addition, Maryland freshman Jordan Williams was one of five players selected to the ACC’s All-Rookie Team. Vasquez is the first Terrapin named first team All-ACC since Steve Blake was a first-teamer in 2002-03. Vasquez received his third selection to the All-ACC teams, as he was a second-team choice in each of the last two seasons. The senior from Caracas, Venezuela, is the first Maryland player since Blake to be named three times to All-ACC squads.
